Radio Democracy(non CI opportunity)
Civic empowerment and capacity building at both the grassroots and leadership levels in developing nations continually challenge nonviolence strategists. Current methods of nonviolence motivation and instruction rely on printed materials, the Internet & workshops. Because of censorship and distribution inefficiencies, these media reach only a fraction of marginalized populations and often cannot be understood due to illiteracy or language barriers. Radio is under-used.
This project seeks to overcome these obstacles with the production and translated radio broadcast of a motivational and educational course in nonviolence to victims of dictatorship, discrimination and oppression in 20 of the world’s worst dictatorships. The use of radio may increase, both quantitatively and qualitatively, mass support for nonviolence and promote nonviolence leadership development in developing countries.
Radio Democracy thus represents an innovative way to increase the ability of a resisting population to persevere in its campaign for freedom despite harsh countermeasures by its opponents, thereby promoting movement sustainability.
The link between nonviolent action and the promotion of democracy has been well established, and democracy is generally regarded as an important component of peacebuilding.
This project is at inception with no funds raised yet. Intent to form 501c3.
Radio Democracy seeks volunteers for proposal writing and online/social media technical support.
