    Health and Environment
Barnard Columbia Earth Coalition (EarthCo.) works to improve the local environment by promoting recycling on campus, organizing park cleanups, sponsoring environmental forums, and coordinating Earth Week activities. Volunteers are involved in national issues by organizing letter writing campaigns and collaborating with other environmental organizations. There is also a weekly educational component in which volunteers engage elementary school children in environmental activities. Volunteer commitment of 2 hours/week on Fridays at various locations.

Health Education & Awareness League (HEAL) volunteers create a curriculum that promotes health awareness among middle-school children in Harlem who otherwise do not have access to health education. Through HEAL's dynamic and interactive presentations every Friday, children are given information on preventative health, nutrition, drugs, careers in health professions and other relevant topics. Volunteer commitment of 2 hours/week, off-campus.

Health Leads volunteers work to ensure that children in the Harlem community grow up free from obstacles imposed by poverty and poor health through a program targeting sickle cell. There is also a Family Health Desk that provides referral services to families at Harlem Hospital. Volunteer commitment of 3 hours/week, various days, off-campus.

Student Health Outreach Program (SHOUT) , in collaboration with the Children's Defense Fund, serves in community-based organizations and school programs. Volunteers educate families about the availability of health insurance and other government benefits and provide eligibility and screenings. Volunteer commitment of 2 hours/week, various days, off-campus.
